Grout & Color Guide

The spaces between Motawi tile are a vital part of every successful installation project. Here’s how to make those spaces work seemlessly and harmoniously into your overall design.

Grouting Basics

  • Before grouting: To prevent staining, we suggest sealing your tiles with two coats of Miracle Sealants’ 511 Impregnator Sealer.

  • Mask art and relief tiles with painters tape or a similar product to prevent grout staining.

  • A 3/16” grout joint is built into our nominally-sized tile. The grout spacing may need to be adjusted to achieve a perfect fit, as Motawi tiles are handmade and there can be a little size variation.

  • We recommend a grout color that’s darker than the color of your tile. Specific colors for your Motawi tile project can be provided by the Design Team.

  • Before grouting your entire project, test your grout on a small area.

  • We recommend TEC Power Grout, or another sanded grout. The TEC Service Department can be reached at 800.832.9023.

  • Because Motawi tiles have a rounded shoulder, we recommend limiting the grout to below the shoulder to highlight the tile’s depth and dimension.
